Following his impressive performance at the 2017 AFL International Cup, Otago young gun Josh Mackie will receive an AFL New Zealand scholarship in 2018.
The scholarship will assist in Mackie’s development in the sport over the next 12 months and AFL New Zealand CEO Robert Vanstam see’s a future for Josh in AFL “Josh showcased significant talent firstly in the 2017 AFL New Zealand Premiership, followed by his selection in both New Zealand Senior and Under 18 teams. We would like to recognise his talent and assist him accordingly.”
The 18 year old is fearless in the way he plays and he efforts didn’t go unnoticed in the 2017 AFL New Zealand Premiership when NZ and Central Giants head coach included him in the wider NZ squad for the ANZAC and International Cup campaigns. His agility along with his height gives him the ability to take strong marks but also the attribute of evading players which showed in his performances throughout this years International Cup.
