Magpies make it two from two in Auckland Women’s league

The Norwest Magpies have produced another stellar display of football to win the second round of the Auckland Women’s AFL over the weekend.

In a similar score line to last week, the Magpies ran away with a big win at Parrs Park in West Auckland.

The game was a good contest with players growing their understanding of the game. The Blues performed much in round 2 as Jess McShane was named best on ground in her first game of AFL. McShane was physical in the ruck through the first two quarters and moved into defence late in the game.

Valentina Serrano (Blues) and Buell Verkade (Magpies) had some good battles in the midfield, while Ceyan Drollet (Blues) made her presence known up forward with plenty of running, stepping and a couple of bounces. She nailed two goals in the second quarter and came close on another couple of occasions in the third quarter.

“Elena Bryham, Caitlin Hanna, Buell Verkade all played exceptionally well today. We also welcomed Angela Byrne who picked up the leather for the first time and slotted in well as a convert from Gaelic.” Magpies Head Coach, Mick Coultard.

“What was pleasing to see was the greater fluidity in how the team played today and the greater attacking flair shown this week.” Blues Coach, Howard Gilbert.
