Nominees for 2019 AFL New Zealand Volunteer of the Year

Over the next week, AFL New Zealand will be announcing the nominees for all seven categories of the annual AFL New Zealand High Performance Awards. 

 

Categories include:

    • AFL New Zealand Coach of the year
    • AFL New Zealand Senior Player of the year
    • AFL New Zealand Female Player of the Year
    • AFL New Zealand U18 Player of the year
    • AFL New Zealand U17 Player of the year
    • AFL New Zealand Rising Star
    • AFL New Zealand Volunteer of the year

AFL New Zealand would like to congratulate the following nominees for the 2019 AFL New Zealand Volunteer of the Year. 

 

The winner will be announced at the 2019 High Performance Awards which will be held on Saturday the 6th of April at AUT University in Auckland City.

Donna Gill

Wellington based Donna Gill has made a impact in the development of the sport in the nations capital over past few years.

Donna gives up her time to help out with the local Wellington league, AFL New Zealand Youth competition and the AFL New Zealand Academy to ensure events run smooth and efficient.

She is the current manager of the Northern Suns in the AFL New Zealand Premiership.

 

Fraser Worthington

Over the past few years, Fraser Worthington has increased his involvement in a volunteer capacity within the AFL community.

He was appointed the Manager role for the Premiership winning Central Giants in 2018 before moving to the Western Crows in 2019.

In 2018, Fraser was appointed Co-Manager of the New Zealand Falcons for the ANZAC campaign will remain in that role for 2019.

 

Howard Gilbert

Howard Gilbert has been involved in multiple roles with the University Blues Football Club in the Auckland local league for over 20 years and is the current Team Manager of 2017 AFL New Zealand Premiers, the Southern Saints.

Alongside Fraser Worthington, Howard has been the manager of the New Zealand Falcons since 2017 and has volunteered his time to help out with the AFL Cup Secondary Schools Competition.

 

Steve Langridge

Steve Langridge is the current President of the Canterbury AFL league and is making a positive impact in the Christchurch community.

Determined to grow the game in Canterbury, his involvement with AFL runs deeper as Steve volunteers his time to umpire in the CAFL, NPC and most recently the AFL New Zealand Premiership.

 

Tim Stevens

Tim Stevens is New Zealand’s most qualified umpire and has been involved in a volunteer role within the AFL community for the past 12 years.

He has umpired in every ANZAC game between New Zealand and the AFL Academy since 2012 and will be travelling to Melbourne to umpire the game at Marvel Stadium on April 27th.
