Nominees for 2018 AFL New Zealand Rising Star

AFL New Zealand would like to congratulate the following nominees for the 2018 AFL New Zealand Rising Star. 


The Rising Star award is awarded to players born in the year 2001 and younger who have represented New Zealand at Academy level.

The winner will be announced at the 2018 High Performance Awards which will be held on Sunday the 22nd of April at Mac’s Function Centre in Wellington.

Congratulations to all the nominees!


Doug McJorrow

Doug McJorrow is from Wellington and was the Co-Captain of the New Zealand Level 1 Academy side in 2017.

He was named best on ground for New Zealand against the NSW Independent Schools side and has great speed and skill execution.

At such a young age, Doug will continue to develop his game and has the potential to be the next Andrew Howison.


Finn Moffat

Finn Moffat from Canterbury won the Round 5 Rising Star award in this year’s Premiership playing as a development player. His defensive pressure on his opponents showed that he could develop into a tough defender in the future.

The 16 year old from St Bede’s College in Christchurch plays a mature brand of footy and represented New Zealand in April 2017 with the Level 2 Academy side.

Finn will be looking to develop his game for higher honours in the year’s to come.


Manny Snooks

Manny Snooks hails from Whangarei in Northland and stands at 190cm tall.

The 16 year old made his debut in the AFL New Zealand Premiership earlier this year playing as a development player for the Northern Sun’s and fit right in at the top level of footy in New Zealand.

With a background in Rugby League, Manny is hard at the contest and dominates his opponents with his clear height advantage.


Quinn Pocock

Quinn Pocock from Auckland was a member of the New Zealand Level 2 Academy side during the 2017 ANZAC Campaign.

A student from Western Springs College, Quinn is a fast athlete with excellent skills.


Ronan Morling

Ronan Morling attends Rosehill College in Auckland and was named alongside Doug McJorrow as Co-Captain of the New Zealand Level 1 Academy side in 2017.

The 16 year old has a great game understanding for such a young player and will look to continue to develop his game with goals of making the New Zealand Senior side in the future.
