Redtails show their flair against AFLNZ Premiership selection

The Redtails Football Club have capped off their tour of New Zealand with an emphatic win over the AFL New Zealand Premiership selection side at North Harbour Stadium on Wednesday evening.

The match started at a fast pace and both sides were hard around the contest.

James Kusel was named best on ground for the NZ side.

It was a tight first quarter as the visitors kicked the opening 2 goals before Harley Jenkins opened the scoring for the Premiership side.

Jay Green was everywhere in the first quarter as he got his hands on a lot of the ball.

It was only a 7 point difference at the first change but the visitors found their form in the second quarter kicking 5 goals to 1. Andrew Howison was rewarded with a goal after a strong first half.

The Redtails defence grew in confidence throughout the game and the New Zealand forwards struggled to get clean ball inside 50.

James Kusel was a shining light for the home side. The Wellington superstar played in defence, midfield and up forward at stages throughout the game and showed that he will make a big impact to the NZ Falcons side at the upcoming International Cup in August.

The home side didn’t give up all game as they threw their bodies into every contest. Young players Kieran Charlton, Xavier Bryham and Tyrone Stubbs all played their part as they made their debut in a representative side.

The Redtails won the game by 90 points and the match was played with such positive spirits. Both sides remained on the oval, sharing photos before some exchanged guernseys.

AFL New Zealand would like to thank Rob Clarke along with his team from the Redtails Football Club for making this trip possible and giving their side an opportunity to experience something special in playing International footy.
