Reigning AFL New Zealand Premiers, the Central Giants have retained James Dakin, Tristan Burnett and Elliot Bennetts for the 2019 Premiership season.
The trio were retained under Category 3 of the Retained Players List (RPL).
RPL 3 is the Retention of Auckland based players. (Up to 5 players retained).
Now into his fifth season playing AFL, James Dakin has developed into quite a handy midfielder.
The 18 year old was selected by the Giants in last season’s draft and picked up his maiden Premiership in 2018.
James has been a key member of the New Zealand U18 side over the past two years and will up his game to another level for the 2019 Premiership season.
The Central Giants will have the services of tough midfielder Tristan Burnett for 2019.
Burnett has been a key member of the Giants over the past three seasons playing a pivotal role in the midfield.
The 29 year old plays for the the Mt Roskill Saints in the Auckland AFL where he lines up alongside Giants Captain Samuel McKenzie.
Howick Hornets (Auckland AFL) star Elliot Bennetts has been retained by the Giants for the first time in his Premiership career.
The small forward had a strong end to the 2018 season featuring multiple times in the team of the week.
His development within the Premiership has helped better his game and has shown this starring week in, week out for the Hornets in the AAFL.
