Round 2 Regional League Results

Round two of the Auckland and Canterbury Regional Leagues have taken place over the weekend.

 

Auckland

The match of the round in Auckland took place between the University Blues and the Mt Roskill Saints, on a wet and windy day at Mountfort Park. University came out firing to kick 3 quick goals kicking with the wind in the first quarter. The Blues were solid in defence all day only allowing the Saints to kick one goal for the match. Masiu Vainikolo was best for the Blues while Liam Ackland was tremendous for the Saints, cleaning up defensive messes repeatedly.

Final score: University 8.7: 55 – Mt Roskill 1.4: 10

The Manurewa Raiders won their first game of the season against the Pakuranga Panthers. Vandyn ‘Diesel’ Hartman was a standout, winning a lot of ball and controlling the game. Rosehill College student Zeon McNabb also had a strong game and continues to gain more experience every week.

Final score: Manurewa 5.5: 35 – Pakuranga 2.4: 16.

North Shore and Waitakere played out the season’s first draw. In a thrilling match at War Memorial Park, both sides showed exceptional skill in trying conditions and could not be separated at the final siren. Brandon Sucu, Ty Smith and Xavier Rice were best for the North Shore Tigers.

Final score: 4.3: 27 – 3.9: 27.

Mountfort Park: Manurewa v University 2.00pm

Onepoto Domain: North Shore v Mt Roskill 12.00pm

Onepoto Domain: Waitakere v Pakuranga 2.00pm

 

Canterbury

In Canterbury, the Eastern Blues and the Christchurch Bulldogs won their first games of the season.

The Blues held on to score a narrow victory over a fast finishing Ashburton Eagles side, winning 5.10: 40 – 4.12: 36.

The Christchurch Bulldogs came up against an understrength Cougars side. The Bulldogs were too quick around the park and ran out to a 14.11: 95 – 3.6: 24 win.
