Saints young guns set to take centre stage

Max Hammett, Lachie McBride and Dan Laracy will all suit up again for the Southern Saints in the 2024 AFL New Zealand Premiership. The talented young trio all played a huge role in the most recent New Zealand U18’s tour, and have the potential to make a huge impact for the Saints in the upcoming season.

Max Hammett played as a development player last season and made waves across the league, earning himself plenty of game time. His fitness level and ball playing ability allows him to continuously make an impact all over the park. Max will also be gunning for a spot in the NZ U18’s side heading to the Pacific Cup in 2024, and if current form is anything to go by, he will be a frontrunner.

Lachie McBride is another sensational young Canterbury talent, and is another product of the AFL New Zealand Youth and Academy Programme. Lachie is a an athletic tall with a great kick and mark, which makes him perfectly suited to play as both a centre half back and a centre half forward. Lachie was also named as captain of the NZ U18’s side in their tour to Australia earlier this year, where he was one of the standout performers.

Dan Laracy is another young talent secured by the Saints for 2024. Originally hailing from Auckland and playing for the North Shore Tigers, Dan moved to Christchurch for Uni, and seems have to have seamlessly slotted in to AFL in the region. Dan is a hard nosed player, and fights to gain possession in every contest and is relentless with 2nd and 3rd efforts.
