Something special brewing in the Gold Coast

In 2011, the Gold Coast Suns made their official debut in the AFL with their AFLW side making their debut 9 years later in 2020. While their AFL team has faced challenges in securing a spot in the top 8, their AFLW counterpart is on the brink of securing a spot in the finals.

Earlier this year, the club achieved a significant milestone by clinching their first-ever VFL title, marking a historic moment for the club. The Suns’ women’s team is now on the verge of competing for their own title, currently holding the 5th position on the ladder.

The journey for the Suns’ AFLW team has been marked by improvement. In the 2021 season, they finished at the bottom of the ladder, but each subsequent season has seen them grow and evolve, narrowly missing out on a spot in the finals in season 7. Following a fruitful trade season and intensive offseason training, the Suns have emerged as strong contenders for a premiership run.

A notable figure in their lineup is New Zealand heritage star, Lucy Single. She is currently enjoying the best season of her career, excelling in nearly every statistical category. Lucy possesses remarkable speed, agility, and endurance, making her a formidable offensive force on the field. However, it is her defensive prowess that has been causing headaches for opposing teams. Lucy currently ranks 8th in the league for tackling, effectively shutting down some of the game’s top midfielders.

As the season unfolds, all eyes will be on the Gold Coast Suns’ AFLW team as they aim to secure their spot in the finals and potentially make a run for the premiership. Lucy Single’s outstanding performance is a key factor driving their success, and she continues to be a force to be reckoned with on the field.

The Suns have some tough games coming up and will need to pick up some key
wins to lock in their place in the finals. Tune in to Sky Sport or download the AFLW Official App to watch the AFLW Live.
