Southern Saints crush lacklustre Giants

The Southern Saints have produced a stunning performance to outclass the Central Giants and claim their second win of the season. Last seasons Grand Finalists piled on 20 goals for the game to win by 90 points at North Harbour Stadium.

Both sides came into this match with already one win under their belts but it was the Saints who asserted their dominance on the Giants as they came to play and attacking game of AFL.

Kicking into a strong wind in the first quarter, the Saints settled early and managed to kick 4 goals to 1 to hold a 3 goal lead at the first break.

Saints defenders Hayden Johnston and Andriu Sucu were strong in the second quarter as they kept the Giants scoreless. The Saints were clinical at rebounding the ball out from their own defensive end and turned it into attacking footy as they led by 40 points at the halftime break.

Man of the moment James Southby came alive in the third term as the Saints full forward kicked 3 goals in a row to help extend their lead. Centre Half Forward James Kusel also managed 3 for the quarter as the Saints were ruthless.

With the Giants down and out, the Saints piled on another 6 goals in the final quarter to win by a whopping 90 points and increase their percentage and are now the only unbeaten side in the 2020 Premiership.

The hero:

Saints midfielder Andrew Bissett was superb around the middle of the ground. From Wellington, the hard running midfielder was exceptional all game and helped the Saints with go forward ball.

The support cast:

The forward trio of James Southby, Harley Jenkins and James Kusel turned it on for the second week in a row with their attacking flair. All 3 players combined to kick 13 goals between them and helped boost the percentage of the Saints.

The consolation effort:

Mitchell Weir was only playing his second game in the Premiership but was easily the Giants best on ground. The midfielder attacked the contest and was hungry to get his hands on the footy all game. Weir will be one to watch out for after his breakout game.

Say what?

“I feel that we put on a very clinical performance today. We had objectives and we met them and a 90 point win needs to be commended.”  Southern Saints Head Coach.
