Week six of the AFL New Zealand Youth competition was back in full swing in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch over the weekend.
Glorious conditions greeted the players at Colin Maiden Park in Auckland as the under 12’s kicked off the day with a fantastic game in which the Giants came from behind to score a four goal win over the Bulldogs. Alec Hampson and Jacob Bingham continued their impressive form and were rewarded with the Player of the Day.
It was a tight game in the U14/U17 grade as theMagpies beat the Giants by 14 points. New Zealand Kahu Youth Girl Valentina Serrano was best on ground for the Magpies, while Harrison Ost was a standout for the Giants.
In the U17’s, the Suns defeated the Crows in a fantastic game of footy. Suns player of the day Tyrone Stubbs was impressive along with Reef Bainbridge who continues to grow and develop.
In Canterbury, it was another close game and low scoring meant there was only point separating the teams heading into the last quarter. It was the Tigers who took out the game as Ed LEonard and Ollie Shaw were named the best players.
The AFL New Zealand Academy is set to be announced next week in the lead up to the Mornington Peninsula tour of 2020.
