Talking points: Round 2

Each week during the 2019 AFL New Zealand Premiership, each week we will delve into some of the key talking points from the previous round.

Following round 2, we take a look at how the young blood at the Saints are making an impact, the comeback Kings and how the Sun’s are not out of the Premiership race quite yet.

Suns not done yet!

Don’t write off the Northern Suns to be Premiers just yet.

They have been hit with a raft of injuries but came out against a highly talented Crows side in round 2 and played with passion and intent which almost saw them cause an upset.

Number 1 draft pick Patrick Landy returns to the side this week and the Suns will look to build into the season in hope of making it to their first Grand Final on April 14th.

The comeback Kings!

The Western Crows have trailed for all three quarters in both their games this season and have managed to storm home in the final term to defeat both the Giants and the Suns.

They take on the Southern Saints this weekend at 2.45pm and if the Saints are to win, they will have to play out the entire game if they are to stop the comeback Kings.

Young Saints making an impact.

The next generation of rising stars have made a sudden impact for the Southern Saints in this year’s Premiership.

Kenta Ukita, Jevaan Croft, Doug McJorrow and Finn Moffat have all played outstanding games so far this season, showing strong footballing attributes.

They have all shown maturity both on and off the field and Central Giants and U18 Head Coach Izaak Williams, will no doubt be casting one eye over these players as he looks to select his side for Melbourne at the end of April.

Looking ahead to this weeks round…

Suns don’t want a repeat against Giants.

The last time these two sides met back in round 9 of last season, the Giant’s piled on 23 goals to set a team record 92 point victory.

Even though the Sun’s have been hit hard by injuries so early in the season, they showed heart last weekend and won’t want a repeat of last year.
