As the AFL season enters its final stretch, the competition is set to reach a fever pitch with teams preparing to secure their positions in the coveted finals. The upcoming five rounds are expected to witness thrilling matches, unexpected upsets, and nail-biting finishes, keeping footy fans across the nation on the edge of their seats, and with 15 teams still able to make the top 8 the race to the finals is going to be a close one.
Last years premiership winners the Geelong Cats are hanging on by a knife edge, sitting in 8th by only 5 percent, but with upcoming games against second on the ladder Port Adelaide, and top of the ladder Collingwood, the door is wide open for Carlton or Richmond to sneak ahead and earn another shot at premiership.
Both Brisbane and Melbourne look set to take 3rd and 4th on the ladder respectively, with a easier run home than the Western Bulldogs, St Kilda, and GWS who are hot on their tails.
Freemantle are still within reach, and although it seems a tough challenge, if they win every game and have other results go their way, they can still make the 8. Essendon, Sydney, Adelaide and the Gold Coast, are the more likely contenders, with the Gold Coast having potential to hammer the final nails into Adelaide and Sydney’s seasons in their upcoming games in round 21 and 22.
