The Southern Stars name coaching and management staff for inaugural season

Matt Cawley has been named as head coach for the Southern Stars Inaugural season.

Matt has an extensive background in junior Coaching with Brisbane based clubs Coorparoo and Morningside. He has a strong passion for the development of the women’s game, fueled by his daughters taking up the sport, and has been hard at work to help advocate for the growth of the Women’s game in Canterbury.

He will be assisted by Lindsay Cameron, another coach and advocate for the Women’s game in Canterbury. Jess McCormick will act as a playing coach for the side, a first in the Women’s Premiership. Jess has a couple premiership seasons under her belt and her experience will be a huge asset for the side.

The Stars are quickly developing a strong family environment with Matt Cawley’s wife, Jodie Cawley, taking on the management role for the side. This means there are now three sets of mother, daughter combos spread across the Stars squad and is an exciting prospect for the season ahead.

The Introduction of the Canterbury based Southern Stars is a huge step forward in the development and growth of the Women’s game, and shows a promising future for the Women’s Premiership.
