Tigers on the hunt as Auckland AFL prepares to kick off

The highly anticipated 2018 Auckland AFL season will kick off on Sunday September 2nd and is looming to be one of the closest competitions in the leagues history.

Reigning Premiers, the North Shore Tigers ended a nine year Premiership drought after defeating the Waitakere Magpies in the 2017 Grand Final held at QBE Stadium.

In round one, the Tigers will take on the Mt Roskill Saints at War Memorial Park in Mt Roskill.

Both sides are coming off strong pre-seasons and boast a high number of New Zealand players which will make this first meeting an intriguing battle.

The Howick Hornets will be the club to watch this season.

After missing out on the finals by one game in 2017, the Hornets have recruited some strong players for the upcoming season with University Blues forward Steph Tabaillou joining the club.

Tabaillou will be team up with highly touted midfielder Travis Walker who returns home to New Zealand after spending several years playing AFL in Australia.

Beaten grand finalists, the Waitakere Magpies will travel to the Hornets nest in Howick and will have to be at their best if they want to begin their season with a win.

The ever reliable University Blues will travel to Mountfort Park where they will take on the Manurewa Raiders.

With an aging roster, the Blues still have plenty of experience around the ground and have the luxury of recently announced New Zealand Head Coach Chris Mundell at the helm.

2018 is going to be an exciting season, so make sure you get down to watch the games and support your team.
