Toni Maree-Carnie to step down

Appointed AFL New Zealand Director, Toni Maree-Carnie will step down from the position of Appointed Director on the AFL New Zealand Board following 6 years of fantastic service.

 

The current CEO of Harbour Sport Regional Sports Trust was first appointed to the Board in 2011 and subsequently reappointed in 2015 by the AFL. With a requirement to re-nominate for the position in October this year, Toni-Maree has opted to resign 6 months ahead of time following the completion of two terms in the board position.

Ms Carnie has significant experience in the not for profit, sport and recreation sector as well as strong ties and relationships in the commercial sector.  Her strengths include not for profit funding, leveraging, partnering, sponsorship and marketing. Her sporting experience provides extensive networks within the sporting community which include a range of government agencies and their Chief Executives, territorial authorities, sponsors, investors and sports.

Ms Carnie played a major role establishing the current Broadcast agreement with TVNZ and the Duke Channel and was a tireless campaigner for female participation, youth programmes, multicultural inclusion, physical literacy and improving community capability.

Both the AFL and AFL New Zealand would like to congratulate Ms Carnie on her work at AFL New Zealand.

The appointment process to fill the position vacated will commence immediately.

The Board of AFL New Zealand is seeking to fill a board vacancy for the position of Appointed Director.

The AFL New Zealand Board is responsible for overseeing the governance, promotion and development of the sport of Australian Football in New Zealand and to provide opportunities for all New Zealand residents to enjoy this exciting football code.  A dedicated team that reports to the Board through the CEO undertakes the day-to-day promotion and development of the game.

The Board has responsibility for monitoring the strategic direction of the sport in New Zealand and wishes to bring to the Board, through this vacancy, proven business, promotion, marketing or legal experience to complement the skills that already exist within the Board.

Applicants will have proven business experience at senior management or board level and be able to undertake the important governance responsibilities as well as develop the strategic plans for the future growth of Australian Football in New Zealand.  Knowledge of sports administration issues would be desirable but not essential.
