Women

With the success of the inaugural AFL Women’s League in Australia, AFLNZ has now created a pathway for Women to play in New Zealand.

With new competitions being formed in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch, AFL New Zealand has also launched the AFL Women’s Premiership.

North Harbour Stadium in Auckland hosted the commencement of the inaugural competition in March 2019 and took place in conjunction with the current male competition.

The female competition provides the perfect environment for girls transitioning from the Youth Competition formats to senior football and is the next step in finalising the pathway for women to participate in AFL within New Zealand.

To complete the female pathway AFL New Zealand has the goal of a national Women’s team competing in the AFL International Cup.
