AFL New Zealand has created its Youth programme for new players to participate in the sport of AFL.
Within the AFL New Zealand Youth programme there is a focus on improving the participants skills and fitness along with a training, game and development programme through a fun and enjoyable pathway.
Our programmes have helped many participants find greater success across different sporting codes over the years, with the likes of Shaun Johnson (Warriors & Kiwis), David Fuistua (Leeds Rhinos & Kiwis), Sam Dickson (NZ 7’s) and most recently Will Warbrick (NZ 7’s & Melbourne Storm) all developing their skills playing AFL before making it in their selected sport
The AFL New Zealand Youth programme includes five centres in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.
Welcome to the AFL New Zealand Youth Development Resources.
The AFLNZ Youth Programme is an “participant first” programme and we aim to ensure that the focus is on the development of those taking part.
We are aware of time commitment for the Youth Programme, for both the players and their families. We will be utilising development resources (links below) on a weekly basis to inform and instruct on how to continue developing your AFL skills outside of the weekend attendance at the programme.
The aim of the Youth Programme is to provide a fun and exciting environment to experience AFL and develop and learn AFL Skills, Rules, Game Play and the continued Pathway’s available to our participants.
The programme will provide a weekly focus on specific modules on each of these areas and you also have access to learn more about these elements as and when you choose.
During the programme, if you have any questions your AFLNZ Youth Manager will be able to either answer your question or direct you to the right person to explain elements of the development resources.
We also have a group of coaches and management staff in each region who are giving up their time to aid in your development. Please appreciate the work they do, but also, make the most of them! Take on board what they say, ask questions so that they can help you.
