Play AFL in Central Auckland this summer

AFL New Zealand are excited to announce the opening of the Central Auckland Play AFL Club. Located at St Paul’s College in Ponsonby, the Central Auckland Play AFL Club will provide those living in the heart of the city the opportunity to play the new and dynamic sport of AFL.

Regardless of your age or ability, there are opportunities for you to play AFL at your local Play AFL Club. We have AFL KiwiKick competitions available for children aged 5-12, AFL 9s competitions for secondary school students aged 12-14 and 14-17 and AFL 9s for Open Grade teams. Competitions will be available for male, female and mixed teams.

The Central Auckland Play AFL Club will open on Tuesday the 22nd of October, and will run for eight weeks. All competitions will take place on the same day of the week. AFL KiwiKick will run from 3.30 until 4.45 each week. Secondary school age competitions will run from 4.45 until 6.00. Open Grade competitions will run from 6.00 until 9.00.

AFL 9s enables people of all ages and ability levels to participate in competitions that fit around their busy lives and provide a social and fitness outlet. Importantly, AFL 9s is easy to play, not too physically demanding and provides an environment where fun, enjoyment and safety are a priority.

AFL KiwiKick focuses on developing fundamental movement skills for children aged 5-12. At Play AFL Clubs AFL KiwiKick will be geared around getting children involved in teams, playing competitive games with an emphasis on fun and full participation. As many children involved with Play AFL Clubs will already have experienced AFL KiwiKick, this is a fantastic opportunity to further develop their fundamental movement skills, which are relevant for a wide variety of sports.

St Paul’s College have provided the use of their fields for the Central Auckland Play AFL Club. The arrangement will have huge benefits for both AFL New Zealand and St Paul’s College, a school with a proud sporting tradition. The school has been a recent winner of the Auckland Junior Hawks Cup, a tournament that pits the best AFL players from around the region against each other.

As part of our exciting partnership with St Paul’s College, AFL New Zealand will offer every student free entry into the whole Play AFL Club season. Other special offers are available for participants.

Every primary school student who has been involved in after school AFL KiwiKick will receive free entry into their local Play AFL Club, and teams organised by secondary schools will also receive free entry into their local Play AFL Club. For Open Grade teams, we will waive the registration fee if the season fees for their whole team are paid upfront. A full breakdown of fees and special offers can be found on our website.
