2016 AFLNZ Youth Competition week 6 results

It was week 6 of the AFL New Zealand Youth Competition and with only 2 weeks to go, all participants in both the Auckland and Wellington Competition are progressing nicely with some stunning football on display.


It was the Youth Girls Lions side that piled on the points late to defeat the Bulldogs this week. The Lions, lead by player of the day and NZ Kahu Setareh Brown (Whangarei Girls High School) kicked six final quarter goals to defeat the Dogs and were helped by Sam Shrimpton (Birkenhead College) who managed four for the game. Chelsea Young from (Pukekohe High School) was named player of the day for the Bulldogs who was phenomenal in the forward line matching Sam Shrimptons four goals.

The Magpies took out the win in the U14 Boys competition after defeating the Tigers by 10 goals on Sunday at North Harbour Stadium. Harry Upton (Takapuna Normal Intermediate) was the star of the show as he kicked five goals and was named player of the day. For the Tigers, Will O’Brien (Rosmini College) made good use of the ball and dominated the ruck to be awarded the player of the day.

Notable mentions go to James Dakin, Brook Robson and Levi Boys from the Magpies and Flynn Robbins, Samuel Thomas and Joe Foster for the Tigers.

In the U17 competition, it was the Crows who were victorious again this week over a gallant Suns side. Ronan Morling (Rosehill College) was named player of the day for the Crows for his outstanding efforts along with Declan Crann (Green Bay High School) who was solid in the forward line. Player of the day for the Suns was Jacob Burri (Green Bay High School) who listened to instructions nicely and followed the game plan well. Burri teamed well with ruckman Max Hicks (Rosmini College) who was in hot form all game and ended with three goals for his side.

A solid contest in the Wellington competition as the Lions overcame the Bulldogs by four goals. Beren Goodwin (Raphael House) backed up his two goals with a player of the day performance while Hari Below (Fergusson Intermediate) showed great leadership on and off the field. Player of the day for the Bulldogs was Sydney Gill who had a stunning all round game and gathered many possessions.

Notable mentions go to Fergus Short and Rico Tuhua for the Bulldogs and Munro Short and George Hopkins for the Lions.
