Junior Hawks Cup North Island Championship 2012

The Boys Junior Hawks Cup North Island Championships saw six schools competing, five from Auckland and for the first time Bay of Islands College travelling south to compete.

The weather couldn’t have been better and the Trusts Stadium in Waitakere, with it’s great facilities turned on a fantastic day. All of the teams were well supported by awesome staff, looked the part and had come to play.

The round robin was contested well with not a lot between the six teams.

With one game to play a champion for the tournament was still undecided. Kelston Boys High School needed a win over Papatoetoe High School to win on the points for and against system over Aorere College. By the end of first half it was obvious that Kelston were too strong and had a little more depth for Papatoetoe taking out the game and the competition.

Congratulations to Kelston Boys High School – Boys Junior Hawks Cup North Island Champions 2012.

This year was also to be the inaugural Girls Junior Hawks Cup North Island Championships. Two schools were represented on the day, Tikipunga High School from Whangarei and Western Springs College from Auckland.

Congratulations to both teams for making the effort to compete, with Tikipunga travelling to make the match. Special mention goes to the team managers/coaches Paul Hope from Tikipunga and Peter Bircham from Western Springs. Without their support and tireless efforts the girls wouldn’t have had the fun that they did, displaying a big physical game of AFL.
