NZ Kahu squad announced to take on Woomera’s

The U18 New Zealand Kahu 2015 team has been named to take on the Australian Indigenous Woomeras in a two match series.

The U18 New Zealand Kahu in preparation for the upcoming series against the Woomeras, have added several new faces to the squad. With the increasing pathway opportunities growing throughout AFL New Zealand Secondary School Programmes, the team has several new athletes with as little as 4 months involvement with the game. Kahu Coach Mick Coultard is excited to see the new team come together with the teams experienced players to guide their new teammates through the campaign, sharing their knowledge and assisting the new players both on and off the field. “ Playing AFL for New Zealand for the first time is a steep learning curve. It will be a true test of the Senior players leadership and growth in the AFL New Zealand Community to ensure the New Zealand Kahu continue to grow and develop in their newly adopted sport.”

As part of of the female development pathway, participation in the AFL New Zealand Youth Competition now based at Harbour Stadium, has provided an opportunity to develop much needed playing time and experience with their new sport in the lead up to the campaign and preparing them for the series ahead.

This is the second time the Woomeras have toured New Zealand and as well as the scheduled AFL fixtures, their trip is also focused on personal development and assisting their young indigenous female athletes to go on to become leaders within their communities.

On the football field, the team is renowned for being fast, skillful and fearless, and will be a match physically for the Kahu.
