The AFL New Zealand Youth Competition kicked off over the weekend in Auckland and Wellington for the first week of the brand new competition.
AFL New Zealand created the new exciting Youth competition to compliment the pathway for participants to excel in AFL. Within the AFL New Zealand Youth competition there is a focus on improving athletes’ skills and fitness along with a training, game and development programme that highlights the necessary requirements throughout the pathway.
The new AFL ground at North Harbour Stadium in Auckland hosted U13 and U17 Boys along with the U17 Girls competitions. Each age group took part in a development session which lead into a game of AFL. Both participants and parents enjoyed the structure and organisation of the new competition and AFL New Zealand would like to thank those parents who volunteered their time to help out throughout the day.
In the Wellington competition, a very strong wind across the ground made for trying conditions. Both U13 and U17 age groups did very well to work hard and utilise their skills and all participants and parents enjoyed the day. Due to funding provided by Pelorus Trust, Hutt Park in Petone has erected a brand new set of Goal Posts for AFL in Wellington.
The Youth Competition takes a break this week due to the Labour Day long weekend but will return on the 1st of November.
