ATTACKING powerhouse Hawthorn will take on 2015’s second-most potent side West Coast in the 2015 Toyota AFL Grand Final in a bid to claim an historic three-peat.

After the Hawks kicked away superbly against Fremantle on Friday night to book their place in the decider, the Eagles then ensured the Grand Final would have a West Australian flavour by beating North Melbourne on Saturday evening.

Next weekend’s match-up between the season’s two highest scoring sides promises a mouth-watering Grand Final, with the Hawks chasing a third successive premiership and the Eagles searching for their first flag since 2006.

If the Hawks win, they will be just the sixth team in VFL/AFL history to win three flags in a row, and the first since the Brisbane Lions of 2001-03.

West Coast were far too good against Hawthorn in the qualifying final, scoring a 32-point win by out-pressuring the reigning premiers and cutting off their ability to build uncontested possession.

The Hawks had won the previous five encounters between the two sides and haven’t lost to the Eagles outside of Western Australia since round 14, 2006 at the MCG.

The Eagles have only played at the MCG once this season, beating Richmond by 20 points in round 12.

In the lead-up to Saturday’s Grand Final all eyes will focus on the fitness of star Hawk Jack Gunston, who missed Friday night’s preliminary final due to an ankle injury.

Saturday will mark the second time these two clubs have met in the Grand Final, following their 1991 clash at Waverley when the Hawks won by 53 points.
